Swapping 101: Drinks

I feel like doing a eat this not that or healthy alternatives to everyday food. This one will be drinks!

                                     For

Coke products contain not so good for you chemicals. High fructose corn syrup spikes your blood sugar making you feel blah after a while. It doesn't have any good nutrients, just bad carbs. Izze is a sparkling juice that has a sweet bubbly taste like pop. All it has are juice concentrates and sparkling juice. So, you get good fruit carbs and feel more hydrated afterwards.

                 For

everyone knows diet soda is oh so bad for your body. I know, know. You want to lose weight but you need something that has taste with no calories. But drinking diet pop can make you addicted to it and not feel satisfied giving you sugar cravings. I used to drink 2 diet pops for a day before, just because it had no calories. But honestly, you're off better drinking regular pop without aspartame. I promised myself I wouldn't drink one diet pop this year, and if I craved one, I would make myself a nutritious smoothie to fill me up on vitamins ,But, if you still want pop but don't want the sugar spike, try zevia! It is quite expensive a 1$ a can, but it is sweetened with natural sweeteners like stevia. So you won't consume chemicals that make your body cry!

                For

People usually drink red bull or some other energy drink for you guessed it, energy. The obscured amount of caffeine in it is what wakes people up. I definitely would not drink this for breakfast. If you need something to wake you up, try a big glass of fresh juice. Fruit you juice yourself has simple sugars which give off fast energy to kick start your day. I like juicing a big batch of basically whatever fruit I have and a vegetable. today I made a juice of oranges, apples, and carrots! If your drinking this at a sleepover to stay up the whole night, go ahead. Just don't drink it every week.

                                  For

Smoothies can either be healthy or very unhealthy. Just because it's a smoothie doesn't mean it's good for you. Restaurants usually use a concentrate of that fruit, which means more sugar and less vitamins and fiber to fill you up. You're better off making a smoothie at home for a much better price. Make sure to use whole fruit and use bananas instead of ice cream. Keep it simple too! Usually I just add frozen berries, chia seeds and water.

FOR
There are so many options of coffee creamer now! Coconut Creme, peppermint mocha, girl scout cookie, vanilla and so much more! And the bottle even says 0 grams of trans fat per serving! WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!! If you look at the ingredients you will see as the 2nd ingredient partially hydrogenated oil. what does hydrogenated oil mean? oil that has been through many chemical stages which creates a man made fat called trans fat that is oh so bad for you. The recommended daily value of trans fat is 0 ZIP SQUAT NONE. But Americans consume more than that which will give you high blood pressure. I used to make my own creamer with sweetened condensed milk and regular milk, or buy natural creamer with no bad ingredients.

I hope you liked learning new things. Next time I'll talk about candy!

I Won A Giveaway!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you, I have gotten obsessed with entering giveaways! I love entering them because, well it's free! I have won a few last year which was when I started entering them here are the things I remember.

  • One of my favorite wins- four bottles of liquid stevia drops, (cherry, vanilla, orange, peppermint, oh and a lemon but I gave it to my mom) and 50 packets of powdered stevia! (In total, a 70$ value!!!!!!) I had to re-post a photo 250 TIMES, but it was worth it!!
  • 9 cliff bars (I'm not a huge fan of them, but I really wanted to win something. I'm guessing a 9$ value.) It was on instagram and I re-posted a photo about 100 times
  • A T-shirt from my local farmers market! (probably a 10-15$ value. I love it!) then, I only entered once but like no one else entered.

  • A variety pack of quest bars!!!! (about a 30$ value for free!) I only entered once but I became close friends with the hostess of the giveaway and she was just so nice :)
    • I also won a prize a few days ago, which was a variety pack of lara bars!!!! (25$ value!) I'm really exited to try them out!
It's hard to find a perfect giveaway, though. I have certain standards that need to be met for the giveaway or I won't even bother entering. Like if it has over 30 entries, it's not worth it. A problem though, is that my parents don't know I enter giveaways, so when a package I won comes, it's hard to make up a lie for example "my friend ordered it for me" But oh well. I'm off to find more giveaways!

7 Healthy Foods......

I find this picture funny. I was looking on Amazon and I found this page that has 7 healthy foods for the new year. And honestly, I started eating these things months ago. It's like I'm ahead of everyone in the health fad!

I love chia seeds in my smoothie! You could honestly put them on anything for a power boost!

coconut oil is so good for putting desserts! I love baking with it, though I got water in mine and it made the oil get mold :'(

OATMEAL. I love having oatmeal to start my day. I put literally anything in it. Pumpkin, hot cocoa, fruit, even more oatmeal.......

the first time I heard about quinoa I thought it was pronounced Qui-No-A. But it's actually Keen-Waa. But it's really good! It's a whole grain with fiber and even protein! You could substitute quinoa for rice in your meals to get more nutrition!

tea is such a good thing. I love peppermint tea. It's very soothing and doesn't make my breath smell bad like coffee.

Almonds are a good thing to snack on! they have healthy fats to keep you energized and have your brain work properly. It's probably my favorite nut.(I think I've said that before)

Whoever says chocolate is unhealthy obviously eats the trans fatty chocolate. Dark chocolate has good antioxidants and is a good small treat to have.

I hope you all have a great new years eve! I just got invited to a friends house so I better start making food! Have a happy new year!!!!

Easy as Pie Almond Milk Recipe!!!

I love almond milk soooooo much! But the unsweetened ones taste really bad plus all of them are really expensive :( I saw a recipe on how to make almond milk a few months ago that showed me 2 ways. This was the first way

Ingredients:

      1 cup of raw almonds

          4 cups of water

Directions:  soak the almonds in water over night. In the morning put the almonds and water into a blender. After blending, filter it to get the almond pieces out. Use within 2-4 days.

It was okay and all, but still pretty expensive. It really didn't have much of a taste, and it had a lot of work. So I tried the other way and it is way easier and tastes so much better! here's he recipe for easy yummy almond milk!

Ingredients:

1 Tbsp of almond butter ( I got Mara Natha almond butter at walmart for 5 dollars! It is ok, but I'd prefer Justin's but it's 8 dollars a jar :(  )

1-2 cups of water depending on how strong you want the taste I switch it up every time.

Directions:  Blend the ingredients in a blender for about 5-10 seconds. Depending on the almond butter you use, you may need to filter it just once. After that, enjoy your easy cheap homemade almond milk!

Christmas Spirit!

Paleo cartoon Trans fat  this picture totally describes what i did last night! I made homemade gingerbread cookies making sure I didn't have trans fat in them. I have realized that the expensive chocolate like gharedelli and Starbucks don't use hydrogenated oils but generic brands like store owned or some knack off brand has it as the second ingredient. So why have the healthy stuff more expensive? It's not fair to give people high cholesterol. But merry Christmas everyone!

Welcome!

Merry Christmas! This is my first blog and I hope to make it awesome! Here's a bit about myself

  • My name is Emily and I love healthy eating
  • I am transitioning into being a vegan
  • I have a very strong hate for trans fat and will NEVER eat it
I want to be a dietitian when I get older!

I am not sure what I'll post on here, maybe recipes and info on the health world. Feel free to leave suggestions!
